The Steering and Program Committees of the CUTC National Transportation Workforce Summit (April 24-26, 2012 in Washington, DC) have issued a call for abstracts from individuals of all disciplines interested in transportation workforce issues.

Abstract submissions may be as text or video. Abstracts should address one or more of the following topics:

  • Transportation workforce needs now and in the future. This topic deals with the demand side of the equation, a practitioner’s view of the needs they see in the transportation workforce, including the changes in skills, knowledge and abilities that they expect to see in the future.
  • Career awareness. This deals with a range of issues related to making people aware of potential careers in transportation, whether in the K-12 setting, older workers, disadvantaged groups, universities, etc.
  • Career preparation and advancement. This topic deals with how people acquire the skills needed to be successful in a transportation career, whether those skills come in a community college or university setting, other training programs or apprenticeships.
  • Transportation professional and continuing education. This topic deals with the broad range of issues related to helping workers maintain and renew their skills, knowledge and abilities.

Abstracts are due November 11, 2011.

The  Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is currently recruiting for a senior leadership position in the Senior Executive Service (SES) for Associate Administrator for Railroad Policy and Development, ES-0340, located in FRA’s Office of Railroad Policy and Development.

The duties of this position include providing executive leadership and direction for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and administering of programs for railroad passenger and freight services, including high-speed intercity passenger rail service development, railroad transportation policy, and railroad research and development.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in formulating program goals and objectives for advancing policy initiatives, Federal transportation financial assistance programs, and for transportation research and development, to ensure strategies are in place for system improvement.
