2014 Student of the Year

Andre Anderson

Andre Anderson has been named the 2014 CFIRE Student of the Year in Transportation.

Mr. Anderson is an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Superior pursuing a quadruple major in Economics, International Business, Chinese Studies, and Transportation Logistics and Management. He is also the president of the UW-Superior Stimulus (Economics) Club and active in the Transportation and Logistics Student Club.

Mr. Anderson has worked as  a research assistant in the UW-Superior Transportation and Logistics Research Center He has been a key student member of research teams for two successful CFIRE funded projects: Evaluating Export Container Pooling Options in MN, WI, and MI’s Upper Peninsula (CFIRE 05-13) and Mining Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) Data for Improved Vessel Trip Analysis Capabilities (RI-04). In that capacity he has collaborated not only with UW-Superior faculty but faculty from two other universities and their student researchers. In the summer of 2013 Mr. Anderson was one of the student leaders for the 4th annual Rail and Intermodal youth summer camp. This assignment required interaction with industry, logistical preparations, mentoring during the days the twenty students were at UW-Superior and writing a published report about the event. He was also the leader of a student team that competed at the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) student case study during the IANA Expo in September 2014 and the UW-Superior student representative to the 2014 American Society of Transportation and Logistics annual meeting.

This award was  presented at the Council of University Transportation Centers Annual Awards Banquet to be held in conjunction with the 2015 Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

2012 Student of the Year

Dan Moser

Dan Moser has been named the 2012 CFIRE Student of the Year in Transportation.

Dan Moser is pursuing a master’s degree in the La Follette School of Public Affairs and a certificate in Transportation Management and Policy through the Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies. He is a returning student and UW-Madison alumnus, having received an MS in urban and regional planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1997. Dan has worked as an urban planner in both the public and private sectors, specializing in land use and growth management. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army and Wisconsin Army National Guard, and deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004.

Dan’s primary professional and academic interests include policies and management practices that promote more environmentally sustainable, equitable, and efficient land use and transportation systems, particularly in urban settings. In addition to his studies, Dan works as a part-time research assistant at CFIRE. His CFIRE research includes work on a study of waterborne freight on inland waterways and the Great Lakes for the Mid-America Freight Coalition’s regional freight study. Dan also serves on the UW-Madison Student Transportation Board. After graduation, Dan hopes to pursue a career in transportation policy.

This award will be presented at the Council of University Transportation Centers Annual Awards Banquet to be held on January 13, 2013 in Washington, DC.

Janowiak Awarded Muzi Fellowship

Scott Janowiak has been awarded the 2011 Andrew Muzi Yellow Jersey Fellowship. Janowiak’s growing interest in commuting, long-distance bicycle touring, and his internship with B-cycle all contributed to his selection for this award.
