WisDOT Freight Data Analyst

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking an a Freight Data Analyst.

This position has a freight and economic development focus related to the preparation of transportation plans and economic studies.  This position plays an active role in the development and maintenance of economic and freight information for the agency’s multimodal plans. Common activities include analyzing and summarizing commodity flow data for all modes through data updates as they become available. Since a large segment of the freight transportation network is privately owned and operated, the analyst participates and serves on economic development outreach committees, academic sponsored research projects and conducts surveys in order to obtain information for a study or research project.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is seeking a Program & Policy Supervisor for the Research and Library Services Unit. This position has the following job duties.

Provide direct supervision of WisDOT’s Research and Library Services Unit staff and advises the Performance, Policy and Research Section Chief on strategic research investment opportunities and the benefits of implementing innovative technologies, processes and other improvements. Develop goals, objectives, work programs, staff assignments, and perform personnel management tasks, including staff recruitment, evaluation and professional development. 

Provide direct oversight of programs and projects funded through the research portion of the State Planning and Research program, including: the Wisconsin Highway Research Program, internal department research carried out through the policy research program, lead-state and participating pooled fund research and other programs that may be developed. This position helps coordinate other research carried out by the Department to maximize its benefits, ensure strategic alignment with the Department’s mission, facilitate agile implementation of results and avoid duplication of effort.

Serve as the chair of the Wisconsin Highway Research Program steering committee and chair of the Research and Library Advisory Committee. The position also participates on national research committees, such as the AASHTO Research Advisory Committee and the Transportation Research Board. This position reports directly to the Section Chief and provides insight and accurate information regarding the state of practice. The incumbent provides backup to the Section Chief as needed.
