Abstract

The I-35W Mississippi River bridge was an eight-lane steel truss arch bridge that carried 140,000 vehicles daily across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, MN. On August 1, 2007, the bridge collapsed.  This accident has lead to additional emphasis on bridge performance monitoring across the nation.

Objectives

Help in organizing a plan for monitoring the performance of deck truss bridges in Wisconsin after the Minnesota I35 bridge collapse.

Tasks

  1. Organize a workshop and planning sessions for bridge instrumentation and monitoring.
  2. Provide a workshop setting for sharing and examining the results of bridge load testing and monitoring.
