Abstract

As a requirement of MAP-21 (PL 112-141) §32802, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is required to develop a report for each state that “describes the route, size and weight limitation, allowable combination, and state law that allows a vehicle to operate in excess of the federal truck size and weight limits on the National Highway System.”

Objectives

Verification of regulatory interpretation and applicability.

Tasks

  1. Develop a list for each state that describes each NHS route that allows vehicles to operate in excess of federal truck size and weight limits.
  2. Provide a description of those size and weight limits in each state that allow for vehicles in excess of federal size and/or weight limits on NHS routes.
  3. Provide a description of the allowable vehicle combinations operating or that could operate above federal limits.
